Note that changing these configurations doesn't actually start or stop synergy. The changes take effect the next time you start your computer or log in. Start synergy and click the Configure The Auto Start dialog will pop up.
If an error occurs then correct the problem and click Configure again. On the Auto Start dialog you'll configure synergy to start or not start automatically when the computer starts or when you log in.

William Donelson, I just really like that mouse; it feels much better on my wrists.
I also like to switch left hand and right hand mousing every few months. I wanted to keep the example simple though, so I went with two home machines that sit behind a firewall. Synergy does. No hardware? Much better than mine and funny, because the lady does not look like a geek…. Synergy sounds like a continuation of this concept.
Synergy is a god send. Did you configure this toy software on company time Matt? Flawless, really recommend it! Synergy rocks! Nice article, too. It sounds a lot simpler than when I remember.
Thanks for sharing this. Most of the people in my team have to juggle between two machines and this comes as a relief.
Thanks for the configuration. How come that we have the same Dell monitors? Nice article. Is this the simplist way to hook up two monitors? My brother plays online poker and wants to play 8 tables at a time which I think requires 2 monitors.
Would this be the only way? Thx Matt, I listen to your instructions and succeed in hooking up two monitors. Now I think that will need to buy new dest because this one is too small. Synergy is an awesome tool. It was practical to be able to rate songs playing without having to get up and hurry to the other PC before the song stops playing.
I was searching for this about weeks ago and never found it. So how did I stumble onto it here? I have to move the focus back to the server for the switching to take effect. Any suggestions? I cant save anything in the etc folder. I also have a question, that someone might be able to help me with: I use a WinXP as the synergy server and Linux as the client.
In the WinXP synergy server, the syncscreensaver option i checked. This post was very helpful. Thanks for the information. Can you please do more informative posts such as this one? Thanks alot! I just set up two computers with one mouse and keyboard. Thanks for the information and instructions Matt. I have always wanted to try Linux and also wanted to have two monitors and two computers going. It seems to work fine except that when I switch to the XP screen the client , the keyboard shares just fine but the mouse only works for about 5 seconds until the cursor freezes on the screen.
Any ideas? Kicked around trying to get it to work for a couple hours. Time to put things back and perhaps try again some other time. Thanks, Matt. This is exactly what I was looking for.
The steps you described worked perfectly. Thank you! Really Interesting Blogs , After step for, i got this type message , can i except this as how to solve this? Really nice tute.. Ubuntu on the right and XP on the left. Great step-by-step. Just a few things to add after building up my own Ubuntu-Windows monster:. Guys, I am trying to run synergy 1. I installed several times and I have a perfectly fine configuration file, both machines can ping each other.
The firewall on the windows box is allowing the port and is having an exception for synergys and synergyc. I have tried it both ways and none of them work. I used FaithNoMore82 tricks to make it work. Is there not a setting somewhere to say 'start when machine powers up'? The "shell:startup" trick works partially for me, sometimes it does auto connect with the server on Mac OS , sometimes it doesn't, and it always shows the window minimised at best.
Is there a way to just start the daemon? I got no Mac to test this out, but would something like this help you out on your mac? Like, do the "trick" I posted on the windows side of things, and the link I posted on the Mac side of things? Just guessing here. Thank you for your reply.
That's actually the setup I have and it works correctly, Synergy starts with the Mac and runs from the menubar. It's the Windows side of things that a little rougher, showing in the taskbar until i manually close it. My "fix" is a dirty one, until they release a better one. It was tweaky to setup, with admin windows and auto start up,.
Yeah I totally agree with you, coming from ShareMouse and a couple more, I have to say nothing gets even closer to the smooth experience Synergy offers. I'm just a little disappointed about it not having a simple "Start service with the computer" check I have high hopes for v2, but I can't make the jump since it's not yet compatible with my Mac OS version Yeah, that sums up my experience as well.
They both had their own set of issues, which annoyed me too much.
